Academy Award 2011

Last night the Oscar winners of 2011 were revealed! I feared that I was going to miss the epic 3 hour award ceremony due to a lack of PVR, but good thing Tien had old school VCR. So we watched it on good old VHS. Here's a recap of the important stuff.

Best Picture: The King's Speech
Best Actor: Colin Firth
Best Actress: Natalie Portman
Best Supporting Actor: Christian Bale
Best Supporting Actress: Melissa Leo

Although Leo wasn't nominated for his sexy role in Inception, the movie took home 4 golden boys :) YAY!

Next year Leo, next year!!

P.S. I think I look like Helena Bonham Carter, because she looks like my aunt, and I look like my aunt. I will find a photo that does me justice!

The following is to bash a Korean popstar. Her name is G.NA, she held a concert last night at the Bell Performance centre. The event promised those who purchased the VIP package that there would be a meet and greet with the star, also autographed photos and personal picture time with G.NA. To everyone's disappointment, the meet and greet was pushed back till the end of the concert, and then by the end of the concert they informed the ticket holders that there would be no signatures, no meet and greet, no personal picture time, only group photos taken by the staff.

WTF. If you cannot deliver your promises, then don't make them at all. You're forever in my bad books G.NA. What a scam! Scamming people of expensive ticket packages and no meet and greet! Even though I did not attend the event myself, but my brother did, and people were furious! You just lost some fans and reputation G.NA.

HATING ON G.NA~!!!!

It snowed quite a bit last night, but today most of the snow has melted down to 2-3 cm :) I took the liberty to take some snaps of the white winter. I am also in the process of trying out some photo styles!

Here's a snap in my yard

North face boots?!

So it is snowing today, and boots are on sale. I saw these puppies on sale for $49. I think I should invest in a pair..?

Exterior is durable water repellent. Good in the snow.. YES?!
White colour is awesome cute, but only black is in the mall.

Click here for more views on the white one!

Or the Merrell Jungle Moc in purple, water resistance. On sale now :)
This is the closest picture I could find. This is a kid version of the shoe.

All deemed very useful shoes for the wintery times we have? YAY? NAY?

Romantic Comedy

We saw No strings attached with Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher. I was infatuated with Natalie Portman after her dark performance in Black Swan. Here's a more light-hearted movie, about 2 people who use each other for sex, but the inevitable happens, they fall in love with each other.

The movie was quite enjoyable with a punchline here and there from the supporting actors, but towards the end of the movie, it just leaves you empty and dumbfounded. Dumbfounded in the worse possible way. You're thinking..huh? How the hell does this love-hate relationship always works out in people's situations? This doesn't parallel with real life.

So, we had a realization that why romantic comedies are so successful, because they appeal to a certain group of people. Here's a list of different genre of romantic comedy.

  • The Love-Hate relationship
synopsis: Two people obviously hate each other, but is forced to work together/be of proximity, and suddenly finds each other's annoying habits sexy and adorable. Falls in love despite all the hate and animosity towards each other just minutes ago.
audience: The single people who purposely annoys their secret crush. This type of movies gives them hope that it will eventually work out!
real-life application: The 5th grader who pulls on his classmate's hair and pushes her in the sandbox.
    verdict: This doesn't really work.
applicable movies: The Ugly Truth, Life as We Know It, What Happens in Vegas, Pride and Prejudice

  • The Cinderella story
synopsis: A person (usually female) comes from a less than wealthy situation, and suddenly comes into some wealth, and meets the love of their life. (Or meets Price Charming and becomes RICH!) Totally life changing!
audience: All the girls who have been fed the Prince Charming story!
    real-life application: Sugarbabies.com
verdict: It is hard not to be blinded by your bling, Prince Charming!
applicable movies: Maid in Manhattan, Cinderella, What a Girl Wants,

  • The ugly duckling
synopsis: An unattractive person gets a makeover or becomes popular, and suddenly everyone is drooling over her, including her crush for centuries. Looks really are important!
audience: People who's self esteem is low, and hopes a makeover is all they need to find true love.
real-life application: Slather on pounds of makeup to cover the insecurities!
verdict: Beauty is not in the eye of the beholder, it is in the makeup bag.
applicable movies: She's All That, Princess Diaries, Never Been Kissed

    Other categories include:
  • The cold feet: Days before the wedding, the bride/groom has doubts about the marriage, or someone is trying to sabotage the wedding!
ex: My Best Friend's Wedding, Made of Honor, The Wedding Planner

  • The my-best-friend-was-always-my-true-love-and-I-didn't-realize-it-until-a-bad-breakup
(I think the category speaks for itself)

  • The loner: Who is always unsuccessful in finding love, or maintaining a relationship, suddenly falls for someone who is not their type! Horray!

And the list goes on and on :)

I love romantic comedies, especially to kill time! But sometimes, these movies are so far off the planet earth, it makes you wanna blast an AK47 at the television.

    My aresenic

I love TV. Even as a small child, the television was always there for me.

I am a firm believer that TV shows don't have to be good to be enjoyable! As long as you're watching it with good company :)

Here's a list of my arsenic recently
  • Gossip Girl
  • Pretty Little Liars
  • 90210
  • Glee
  • American Idol (I've never followed so many episodes of American Idol before! J.Lo is awesome)
  • My Strange Addiction
  • The Office
  • 30 Rock
  • Family Guy (Only when I can catch it on tv, if not I watch it online)
  • America's Next Top Model (I know a lot of people don't like this show, but goddamnit the photography is sick)
  • The Bachelor (only when taken in small portions)
  • Millionaire Matchmaker
  • Chopped
  • Selling New York
  • House Hunters + House Hunter International
  • TRUE BLOOD! (It returns this summer!)

Enough about TV, here's what I did over the weekend. Finally took out the D80 for photo opts around town. Tien and I went to brunch at Faubourg in Kerrisdale. Brunch was ok, but I think the afternoon tea would probably have blown us away. We'll be back next time. During brunch we got into a bit of a misunderstanding and the tension was making me sick. It seemed real dramatic too! Good thing we talked it over after brunch and made things clear. It is often so much easier to run away from the situation and stay angry at the other person. But we're better than that! AHAH. After brunch we went to Oakridge Centre, in an attempt to buy stuff, mainly an iPad for Tien. iPad was a no go when he realized it was $600. Fail. Also, you should have seen my outfit yesterday, it was awesome, too bad our DSLR skills have yet need some brushing up. HAHAH. I will be sure to take more photos in the upcoming months guys! Don't you worry!

Here's a list of things I am in love with at the moment

Fossil's Vintage Re-issue messenger in canvas

We saw this at Fossil in Oakridge, pretty cute :)

Red colour is also to die for

    My oxfords!

    Been wearing them around town!

    Organization aisle at Wal-Mart
I need to get a small sock drawer for my closet/room renovation! It is currently a mess, so I will spare you the photo.

    Lace, lace, and more lace

I bought a shirt similar to this style, for only $12.99 at Guildford. Ahh working in a mall has its perks.

    Vegetarian Hoisin Sauce

We finally founds some in T & T supermarket! The first place we should have looked, but was lazy to!

and of course, my favourite mister in my favourite photo!

    Love you hunnie.

    Cleaning room + Adele

Somehow I thought cleaning my room to Adele's cd would make the job less tedious..Guess I was wrong, but the music is so relaxing :)

I am making soyeggs as we speak. Also trying to find organization/zen in my room.
    AGRH

I will be watching American Idol tonight :) Don't judge! I've never followed any of the previous seasons before. This one seems promising.

    Things I need to buy

I want to go on a shopping spree once the weather gets nicer and warmer!

  • Red maxi skirt
    I saw one on yesstyle.com for only $20 :)
OMG I totally forgot I can go to American Apparel for a full rainbow of colours in maxi skirts :) TOO EXCITING

  • Mulberry mini Alexa
This bag, named after British style icon Alexa Chung. So cute. I am loving structure yet slouchy handbags all over again! The mini is just the right size for me! Also it is half the price! Although they are really sexy bags, I wished they had some mini Alexa not made of leather.

    $695 USD
The red is just so gorgeous!

    $950 USD
This is the tiger print raffia! Made with natural plant fibers, no leather yay. (except for the strap and trim)
It is equally cute, though not as versatile as a solid Alexa, also it doesn't come in mini size on their site :(

I know it may sound ridiculous of me wanting to buy more bags, even though I am surrounded by bags everyday! I have paid hefty prices for beloved handbags in the past, but this time, maybe not..unless they make more leather alternatives! I did, however, order some handbags from the Giftshow that are similar to Alexa style! WOOOPEE

  • Belts
A skinny belt and a fat fat belt :) preferably in brown

  • Winter shoes that are on sale!

  • Spring floral dress
Who can have too many of these

  • Braided style headband
The last one I bought was too small for my giant head.

  • Wide brim hat

It makes you feel like you're on vacation

  • Faux leather motorcycle jacket
because I want to look tough!!

  • Lace panel sweater
I bought one from XXI.com but it was a fail because it has rabbit fur and it itches my sensitive skin.

  • Sheer white shirt
Who could say no to this beautiful basic that's not so basic!

YAY, that's all for now friends, happy Winter Olympic anniversary and happy valentine's day!
