Over the past year I haven't dedicated enough time for blogging, mostly because the business is busy moving and life has been really hectic. Here's some of the highlights of 2011.

Nothing much happened in January and February...

March
Started my lookbook account, and took several outfit photos! This did not last long...since it was very time consuming!

March was also a devastating time for Japan and Libya.

April
My LG phone died, so we had to charge it old school way.

And Tien bought an iPad!

Also the month that I found out I am now lactose intolerant....

May
We took a trip down to Bellevue and watched an awesome Canucks playoff game there! Also went to eat dumpling at Dim Tai Fu, and dinner at Wild Ginger! Really fun trip :)

June
I got an early birthday present in May! It was iPhone 4!!! Thanks hunnie :)

June was also a really sad month, where we lost in game 7, the stanley cup finals :(

People were kind enough to clean up the street after the terrible riot.

July
We decided to start project 365 to document 1 year of our lives! This project has deem to be quite successful!

My cousin came to visit us in July!

And we took our annual EVO convention trip to Las Vegas :)

Where I saw the world's top street fighters and also Celine Dion!!!!

August
We took some baller photos in August.

We celebrated Tien's birthday with some camping and picnicking around the park!

It was a beautiful summer.

September
It was a really long summer, it didn't end until last week of September. We still had gorgeous sunshine.

We also discovered tasty cheese fondue, where we would visit many more times over the months.

October
This halloween we were beauty and the beast!

We also had a nice high tea to celebrate Lilly's engagement!

November
Tien's surprise proposal!

Even though we had plans to get married, and we already booked a venue, I was still quite shocked and surprised when he popped the question and showed the ring! LOVE YOU!

December
Finally, last month before the new year. This was an eventful year. We had a really good Christmas with lots of gifts. Even though we did set a budget and a shortlist of gifts, we ended up with more than we were expecting!

I thought it was a portable harddrive! I didn't even bother to open it! but it was a sweater!!!

There some good and sad moments in 2011, and hopefully the new year will bring us strength we need. Family, friends, and loved ones will give you the strength you seek, and in turn we shall support them all the way. 2012 is a new year for new beginnings and new adventures. Let us embrace 2012 and say thanks to all the challenges and experiences that 2011 had given us.

I love the Bay for its vast variety and selection of brands, and its occasional sales, but lately I have not appreciate their customer service!!!!

On two separate occasions I have had to deal with incompetent cashiers and misleading sale signs that indicated otherwise.

Tomorrow I will attempt to visit the Bay again for my price adjustment, hopefully I can find someone who is able to understand what the meaning of Price Adjustment is.

Anywho, I wrote a complaint email to The Bay, hoping they will train their staff and educate them better to service the customers' need.

Below is a letter to Bonnie!!

"I was at the bay twice this week, and both times I had very difficult experiences with the cashier at Surrey BC, and Metrotown Burnaby BC. First time at Surrey was the fact that sales signs indicated 40% off hudson room pyjama set, but at the cash register it came up only 30%. I went into the store 3 days later to find the items I had purchased were marked down, brought in receipt for price adjustment, but cashier was incompetent and could not complete the price adjustment, because she was simply scanning my receipt and refunding my original purchased price, telling me, "no the item is not on sale, look it's the same price." I am visiting the bay again tomorrow to find a different cashier and hopefully she will complete a correct price adjustment. I have been utterly frustrated with your services."

It is the Christmas season, which is also the season to reflect on the whole year, and what we are grateful for, and look forward to the new year with new hope and wishes!

Speaking of Christmas, first thing that comes to mind is the holiday drinks at Starbucks!

So my favourite drink is the creme caramel brulee latte! I was waiting patiently in line the other day for my favourite holiday treat, as I waited for him to top off my latte with whipped cream and caramel bits, I had noticed there was a lack of golden sparkles on my mountain of whipped goodness. I saw the barista searching frantically for that magical bottle of caramel salt!! He didn't tell me that they were out of caramel bits and I could feel sadness grow inside me. As I reluctantly picked up a lid and moved towards my not-so-brulee latte, a light of hope came from the back room! Someone yelled and said, "here are some caramel sprinkles!!" IT was a Christmas miracle!! My barista soon came over to my already covered drink, and said he is glad I stuck around, because it isn't a caramel brulee latte without the bits!!!! He then sprinkles generously on my latte! It was the best day ever!

Back to nostalgia....I miss all the olden day stuff, like Sega genesis..Someone lend me their console so I can play World of Illusion, my favourite game as a child! Also Aladdin!

Remember Rocketmail?!?! Subspace? All the old stuff made life so fun and exciting! Facebook is no longer fun and exciting for me.... :(

After the proposal, I've been busy catching up with friends on the details of wedding planning. It is more hectic than I thought, or I just lack serious time management skills! Anywho, it's been nice meeting up with friends and giggles over gossip.

It appears that we are officially engaged, by society's standard of an engagement ring that is. Tien and I have been talking about getting married, and even planning too. We both agreed that we didn't care for a long engagement period, we wanted to strike the iron while its hot.

Some thought planning the wedding even before getting engaged seems like it would ruin the surprise, but man oh man, was I surprised!

Tien and I started project 365 last July, we would take a photo every day for 1 year. Every now and then we'd go print out photos and put them into our album. He came over last night, with a stack of photos that were printed 3 weeks ago. As we were sorting the photos and putting them into the album, we noticed that we were missing a photo for August 22. We checked everywhere, and the computer too, seemed like we've missed one day! When we finished putting photographs in the album, he picked up the box that the photos came in, and shook the box. There was a photo inside the box, I was thinking, oh it's the missing photo from August. When he took out the photo, it was a picture of a ring, with caption saying "Will you marry me?" Then he took out the ring from his pocket, and he asked me to marry him, and of course, I said yes!!

It was a really happy evening and we went downstairs to tell our parents the good news, but apparently, they already knew. Last week while I was at work, Tien came by the house and ask for my father's permission to marry me. He said it was one of the most awkwardest thing he had to do!

The moment was so surprising, and it happened so fast! Exciting stuff right, guys?! Now on to more wedding planning...

The things that make you happy.

The things that make you happy are not objects, at least for me. Living in a material world, it is often easy to gain material goods, and call it happiness. Material happiness is always short lived, because it has no meaning. The things that make me happy are family, love, friends, and passion. The list may seem like the "obvious" choice, but when it really comes down to it, these are the important things in life.

No matter how bad things get, or how complicated the situation, family always comes first. I am an individual, I am a sister, and I am a daughter, for all the roles in life, I am a part of my family first and foremost. Family defines who I am, and their happiness is a direct dictation of my own happiness. Keep your family happy, and soon you will be happy. If family is content and happy, then I am happy.

Love makes me happy. To know that there is someone you can count on and rely on for support, for love, for guidance, for companionship, is comforting, but being able to reciprocate makes me happy. Some internal capacity to love can in turn become this massive and limitless affection and appreciation for another being is a true miracle. If my action, my words, my existence can bring a smile to my love, then I am happy.

A world without friends, is like a world without laughter. Friends appreciate you, accept you, understand you, help you, and support you. Friends are like little treasures, and you cherish how special they are. Sometimes friends are the only people that understand you, and the only people who can tell you things that your family is afraid to tell you. Honorable and trustworthy. If my friends are happy, then I am happy.

Believing in yourself has immense power, if you believe in yourself, you will find power and passion. Passion is one of the driving forces that we need to push ourselves to the limit, and then some. Find your passion, find your love, then you will find happiness.

I realized that bangles are heavier and perhaps a bit of a nuisance when worn, thus I found delicate bracelets as a good alternative jewelry.

I love love love organized items. Especially when it is neatly shelved in rows and rows of repetition! That is why cleaning out my closet tonight was such a frustration! Oh, how I long for a Pax wardrobe system. One day I will have my closet!!! It just eases my mind to know where to find that particular piece of clothing. It may seem like a small stress, but it really adds up when you are trying to get dressed every morning. One less stress is better than one more! I believe I would utterly enjoy it thoroughly. I can't express how much I love neat repetition!

Recently, I had the chance to come by a couple of Kate Spade products. I must say, I approve! The first Kate Spade product being my iPhone case, I love it :)

Kate Spade's style is sophistication with a touch of whimsical fun! That is me! I used to love Marc Jacobs + Marc by Marc Jacobs, but lately I am feeling more like Kate Spade! I love the preppiness of it, and the pop of colour. Marc Jacobs is all about simplicity with very subtle colours.

It's getting cold

So, I've come to realize that I am in desperate need of wintery apparel. I don't exactly have a flattering winter coat, nor a warm scarf, or snow-proof boots. This winter I will be on the lookout for some practical and sexy items. Here's a pair of boots I saw at the mall the other day. Aren't you surprised to see winter boots so early in the season? It's never too early! I remember last year when it snowed for the first time, everyone was at Richmond Centre buying boots. crazy!

A nice pair of waterproof boots from ecco. I am not a huge believer in buying UGG boots, because they are expensive as hell, and does not do well in wet winters. I think waterproof boots will be more practical~ $270 is a bit on the high end of shoes....for me at least.

We went to eat cheese fondue last night at Capstone on Robson street.

Pretty tasty and perfect portions for 2 people! They also have all you can eat chocolate fondue! Only $10 :) I prefer cheese because savory never gets dull!

We went to Ikea today! It is always fun to hit up the furniture store and check out clean and neat rooms!

Hopefully we'll start seeing some winter coats in the mall soon!! Until then!

Mama needs new shoes

So, lately I've realized that when I wear my city flats from the Gap ( I love them because they are comfortable, but I hate them because they hurt after an 6 hour work shift, due to lack of sole.) if I walked in wet areas, water would seep inside!

It has been several months, but I finally took a good look at my flats today, and dum dum dum, there are holes on the side. I've only bought this a couple of months ago! Why is it broken?! So sad, but luckily it was only $12 :)

I think this is a valid reason to purchase a new pair of shoes. I am looking for real sensible soles that I can at least wear up to 8 hours without any pain. I am hoping some of the new flats from Aldo this season will be comfortable, or else I have to resort to ugly but comfortable merrell shoes...

Slacking off

I've been totally slacking off with blogging lately. Perhaps the nice weather has kept me occupied. I believe fall has officially arrived. There is chilliness in the air, I can taste the autumn leaves. On the last days of summer, we went to a beach in Port Moody, which was surprisingly beautiful and calm.

We really tried to enjoy the outdoors as much as possible this summer! Even went biking around the seawall twice!

I've been looking for a long skirt for the longest time! Because most skirts are too long for me. Last week I found an ankle length skirt at H & M !! Here I go!!

I've been quite busy lately, with work and the rest. Hopefully I can take a break soon!

Cargo + Weekend at Granville Island

Cargo is a 2009 Swiss production. We watched this on Netflix about 2-3 weeks ago. At first we were drawn to this particular movie because it reminded me of Sunshine (2007 British Science Fiction film) The whole big spaceship in the endless space and the people on board starts to go crazy?! I am a closet sci-fi geek. Anyway! Cargo had that same feel, so we watched it!

Not to give anything away, this is the gist of the movie. A crew is set out for a 8 year voyage to transport some cargo to some planet's orbit station! At this point, Earth was inhabitable, and many people have moved to a new planet, Rhea. The main character is a doctor who boards this 8 year cargo voyage to make enough money to buy a Visa to Rhea, where her sister lives. The journey is smooth until something eerie starts happening on the ship! The rest is for you to find out... :)

[REC], is a Spanish horror film, also available on Netflix! I am a big fan of Spanish horror films, Pan's Labyrinth, The Orphanage, are amongst my top horror favourite! [REC] might be amongst the top 5! The movie is filmed using shaky camera style, which causes motion sickness, not my favourite. Although I believe this type of shaky cam does add to the scary aspect. I was most impressed with how many of the shots were a one continuous take (mind that they could have had many takes, but it was still nonetheless impressive) Another thing about shaky cam style, is the lack of music! Usually scary movies have suspenseful music that help s you anticipate the AHHHS. This is straight up REAL STUFF. I felt really immersed, as if I was in the movie! The synopsis of the movie is a tv show that is filming a day with firefighters, and is caught in some firefighting business! In the middle of the night, fire department gets a call to a building, regarding some screaming. Once they've entered the building, no one gets out. Everyone is confused and scared, what is going on?! Cops and authority quarantine the building without telling them anything. People are dying....?!? WATCH IT. There is also an American adaptation, Quarantine, I have yet to see it.

On to less scarier things, we visited Granville island over the weekend, and it was nice weather and Vancouver is just absolutely stunning!

The summer is ALMoST over, so go outside, and get dirty!

Overdue!

The summer is already half gone, yet we still haven't gotten any decently hot weather. Fear not, I just came back from Las Vegas about 2 weeks ago, and is dying for more sun!! Here's a recap of what happened during my trip!

We saw Celine Dion on the first night! Which was extremely epic!! I have to say I got goosebumps throughout the whole show!

After the show, we visited EVO 2011, gaming tournament for fighting games like streetfighter, and I got photos with the world's top fighters! I was super stoked! Here is me with Daigo Umehara!

We wore our custom tshirts during the tournament finals, and got a lot of stares and drools over our tshirts!

The trip was relatively relaxing with awesome food! We finally took a dip in the pool! So refreshing! I also got a chance to utilize my new bikini :)

Long Overdue

Harro! I've been slacking off in the blog department. So, what have I been up to lately? I've been really preoccupied with this project 365. In case you are not familiar with project 365, it is taking a photo everyday for a whole year, to document your life, also as a way to use my camera more often. It is really difficult to remember taking a snap every single day! Anyway, I've also been shopping! Bought a pair of wedges at Aldo! I love them :)

I went to Forever 21 the other day, and finally, after much search, found myself in a pair of jean shorts! Just days after I bought the shorts, the sun decided to come out! i guess Mr.Sun wants to see me in some short shorts! I also snatched up 2 tanks for $2.80. Also bought one of those so trendy cropped tshirts with a really cute design :)

My cousin came to visit for 2 weeks, and she's leaving tomorrow, we will meet again soon I hope. Here's a snap of us!

Also, Las Vegas vacation in 1 week! I am excited. Some people don't see why we go to vegas every year. Well we don't exactly go to vegas to PARTY. We just got there for the relaxing hotel and the shows. We literally just go there because it's easy and it's a nice value for the kind of services you can get! BAHAHA

Wedge obsessions

Lately, I've been wanting to buy a pair of wedges or espadrilles wedges! It took me the longest time to learn to love them, and just in time for the summer too. They always come back in the summer! Here are a few contenders from Aldo!

Crocs galore

So, apparently crocs are not what they used to be, those holey shoes with weird shapes!
These are all the buzz! Christine told me about her purchases of crocs, at first I was skeptical, then she showed me the website, then Cam had a pair of croc version flats and I tried them on. I think I fell in love that day. So, on my next trip to Sin City, I shall hit up the local crocs store and pick up a pair or two!

Summer is here

Finally after all the hockey fever, we finally have some real time to enjoy the sunshine. Although Mr.Sun hasn't exactly been punctual, but please, it's almost July.

I am not sure what to write here...since the past 2-3 weeks have been kind of meh! Let's celebrate summer! We're buying a tent today!

Riot or not, I still love hockey and Vancouver. ♥

An estimated 100,000 fans showed up in the Downtown Court area, to soak in the atmosphere and watch the game together on the big screens. The game ended in favor of the Boston Bruins, leaving Canuck fans disappointed. Although we had lost, I felt the team did their best, and gave us a great season of hockey to watch. Immediately after/before the epic Game 7 ended, crowds went crazy! Videos footage and images of people setting cars on fire, breaking store windows, looting, and fighting were on every news channel. Yes, it is disheartening to see fellow Vancourites committing such a violent act against our beautiful city, but it is more heart wrenching that these rioters be called "Canuck Fans" These small groups of people, were not fans. Yes, some fans may have been angry at the outcome of the game, but their passion for the game did not channel into rage and hatred. Many of the rioters were in the downtown area for one purpose, and one purpose only, to start shit. What Canuck fan in the right mind would bring hammers, weapons, tools, and masks to watch a game? These were obviously targeted, and premeditated game plan to riot, despite the outcome of the game. It is sad to see people taking advantage of this joyous gathering of fans, and using that as an opportunity for vandalizing and looting. Rioters love to put on a show, so if you stay around and cheer them on, or take pictures of them, they feed off that attention, and get even more aggressive. It was the perfect opportunity for them to do bad without consequences.

Sadly, many people blame the fans for the riot. Despite having gained a bad reputation as a Canuck Fan, and as a citizen of Vancouver, I am still a proud fan, and I love the team, I love Luongo, I love Kesler, I love the Twins, I love Burrows, I love Hansen, I love them ALL!!! Most of all, I love the city of Vancouver. Look how fast we bounced back from the riot damages, people are downtown today helping out with the aftermath! I love this city! We are all Canucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is truly a beautiful city, with beautiful people, and beautiful team :)

P.S. Thank you police force and the fire fighers, emergency crew, cleanup crew, and glass repairmen for keeping our city safe and beautiful. LOTS OF LOVE ♥♥♥

So we've all heard of this quote, in its many forms.

If you love something, let it go, and if it comes back to you, that's how you know, it's yours forever.

If you love somebody, let them go. If they come back to you then they're yours forever, if they don't return, then they were never yours to begin with

Anyway, if this quote was to be applied to relationships, it doesn't make much sense to me. If you truly loved someone, but they didn't love you back, and felt the need to leave you, and later decides that their decision was wrong, and came back to you, would you really want them back?

I am not usually a cynic, but this quote is weird. HAHA. If you have to let someone go, then it obviously wasn't meant to be from the start! Don't take them back!!!

We're on a comedy streak! If you're into HAHA movies, then go see these. Bridesmaid was pretty funny, although the main character was annoying at times and irritated me quite often. Hangover 1 was hilarious! Part 2 is the exact same thing as the first, but not as funny! All in all, easy movies to watch :)

Prom Night Adventure!

Over the Victoria Day long weekend, Tien and I went to Bellevue to enjoy a different city scene. Weather was not too bad, we didn't encounter any rain, but the temperature was cooler than we'd like. Here's what went down!

Back to the title of this post, Prom Night adventure! On Saturday night, we dined at Wild Ginger, which is like a semi fancy restaurant, with more of a casual undertone. Turns out that night was many highschool's prom dance! We saw several teens in their tux and over-the-top dresses. That night I, myself, was also wearing a maxi dress, I probably could have passed for a Prom-goer? No? HAHA. It was nice to see young adults getting ready for their first formal! After dinner we were planning to catch a flick at the theatre, but turns out, the parking lots were super full! Probably the crowd at the Prom dances! We decided to call it an early night and went back to the hotel and had our own prom night! Dancing and stuff! Happy Prom Night kids! Stay safe!

May long weekend

The weather has been phenomenal lately, but looks like it may rain over the weekend. Above is my weekend itinerary! Dum dum dum! I always found Bellevue a nicer city than Seattle, since it is quieter! See you guys after the long weekend, and go Canucks go!

Regarding my recent detective Annie post, about scams on Craigslist and cheap iphones for sale, this is another scam!

I came to work today, and right at 10:00AM, I received a phone call. The caller claimed to be some Canadian First Aid Association, and told me that it is regulation and mandatory to have a professional first aid kit on site. It was nearly impossible to hear her talk because of such low volume and she talked real fast. After a minute of introducing this "mandatory first aid" topic, she then insisted that she will be confirming my address for the delivery of the first aid kit, and the refills later are at discount price. From the beginning of this call, I found it to be fishy, since if the first aid kit really was mandatory, the Mall administration would have told me. So followed the conversation.

Annie: So, is there a fee for this kit? (up until now she hadn't mention a price)
Caller: Oh yes, it will be $299
Annie: Is there a way for me to verify your authenticity?
Caller: Umm, what do you mean?
Annie: Is there a website or some government group, city hall that I can call to verify that this regulation is mandatory?
Caller: Oh, we are a private company.
Annie: I already have a first aid kit, I don't need your services.
Caller: oh..ok.
Annie: (hangs up)

WTF, why are scammers everywhere! Calling and posing as some government regulation and unknowing send you and charge you $299 for some lame first aid kit!!! Be aware!

This is my first post as Detective Annie. Solving crimes and busting the bad guys!

I have been having some phone dilemma lately, and I thought it might be a good idea to search up some iPhones on craigslist. I saw most iPhone 4 were priced at the $500-$700 range, depending on its usage/age. Several ads stood out, with a brand new iPhone4 starting at $310. Brand new, not a clone, and promising to meet at apple store to verify authenticity. Also mentioning it was a gift/free iPhone, and need it for quick sale for cash. It all sounds too good to be true, when the apple store is selling it for $659+ Even if he did get it for free, he did not have to sell it so much below face value. So we came to the conclusion that it is probably an authentic iPhone4, but possibly stolen. To feed my curiosity, the seller replied to my inquiry. Read below for your daily entertainment dosage.

* Ah HA~! Things that sound too good to be true, are really too good to be true. If you are not familiar with these "complete a survey and win an iPad, win an iPhone" websites, let me debrief you. You complete what seems like an innocent survey, only to find out you need to enter your personal information and your cellphone number. Once you enter your cellphone, a PIN is sent to you via text, which by now you're probably subscribed to their program (which typically costs $2-3 per text/question) You answer some trivial questions, and earn a ballot towards winning the prize (ie, iPhone 4) So, are these website really legitimate? I don't know. I have not personally known anyone who was courageous enough to participate in these surveys, but according to the survey website FAQ,

When will a prize be awarded?
Each month 1 winner will be selected. You are entered to win by answering a question correctly, each correct answer represents 1 ballot. As such, more correct answers means more chances of winning. Winners will be notified via a personal text message. The names of the winners will be announced on the website.

It doesn't seem illegal, because once you subscribe, you are consenting to pay $3 a text message, and they promise you a ballot. The question is, who is winning these prizes? Apparently the guy selling his 3 free iPhones on Craigslist. It is a pretty clever scam, since the website is making money from your text messages. Also, who knows if this Craiglist guy isn't a rep for the site, trying to gain more interest.

SCAMS ARE EVERYWHERE GUYS! EVERYWHERE!!

*Also, there are ads on craigslist that also lists the seller's phone number, it may see more legitimate than the other ads, but think about it, if you call it, the caller has your number, and can probably sign you up for this scam service and you'll be charged! WOW.

We've all seen younger men/older women, or older women/younger men. Some of these couples are truly compatible and in love, yet we cannot help it but to raise an eyebrow when we see these couplings in public. I try not to judge, but society has made me a skeptic.

Older women & Younger men
The common conception/misconception about this type of relationship is that the woman is a cougar! Younger men are attracted to woman's confidence and her independence. And the older woman is attracted to the liveliness of younger man.

We cannot completely veto these ideas, for these are some of the reason why people date outside their age group. I guess if you look deeper into this, it really has to do with maturity levels. I would like to introduce a theory: Age-maturity expectancy.

What is Age-maturity expectancy?
Society/ourselves/people we don't know, expects a person of a certain age to behave in a certain way that is considered "age appropriate". As a society, we understand that maturity has nothing to do with age, as everyone matures differently, but we cannot help but use age as a factor when determining someone's maturity level.

How does this age-maturity expectancy theory ties in with the age of our partners? When we are of a certain age group, we are expected to reach certain milestones, or else it would seem like we are not progressing in the book of life. When you're in your 20's you get a job, when you're in your 30's you start a family, and so forth. Yes, these milestones may seem traditional, and outdated, but the reality is that it becomes increasingly difficult to mark these milestones if you are outside of its age group. Nature did not intend for people to have children over a certain age, although humans are always pushing these boundaries, some things only nature knows best. Nowadays we have women over the age of 50 giving birth to babies, it is truly a miracle and a blessing, but it will be difficult to care for the infant when the health and bodily functions start to decline.

So, when we are still in the same type of relationships we were 10 years ago, still dating the same 16 year old, people may start to question your maturity level. As a ripen adolescent begins to venture into romantic relationships, it is first puppy love, then as he/she progresses, the relationships are deemed more meaningful, more soul fulfilling. Eventually the relationship is beyond puppy love, but more about caring for the partner, becoming somebody's pillar of life. I cannot deter or redefine the social stigma of dating someone who is significantly older/younger, but as long as both parties are on the same maturity platform, that's all it should matter! Impeccable compatibility!

A couple of weeks ago, my facebook account had suspicious activity, and facebook shut it down due to unauthorized person trying to log into my account. In the mist of this, I decided it was a good idea to change my other accounts/passwords. I am super frustrated, as I don't have the same password for all my accounts, which I would like to. Some sites restrict the number of characters, therefore I cannot have the same password I would like for all of them. It is dangerous to keep the same password for all the accounts, but it is just so much easier. Now I have about 4-5 different passwords, and it hurts my brain every time I try to log in. I just want a simple and secure password guys!!!!!

Spring warobe additions

Sometimes it takes me a season or two before I adapt the hottest trend, because it is daunting to try new things! Like the skinny jeans, it took me almost a year before i was brave enough to trifle in them cigarette legs, and I've never looked back! And tights/legging, I thought the whole thing was tacky, but look at us now! It's an essential in our wardrobe. Trends come and go, so don't splurge on a trendy piece unless you think you can work it into your everyday wardrobe.

Maxi Dress
By now you must have seen maxi dresses taking up racks at the shops! Last year's comfy maxi trend is still hot for this summer. Don't be wary if you're short, maxi dresses actually make you look taller! Just try to be careful not to choose a overpowering piece that may swallow you. Also, try to piece interesting jewelery or a belt, so you don't end up looking too plain and maternal. I finally got myself a plain red maxi, and can't keep my eyes off maxi dresses in the mall! I saw a nice turquoise one today, and I am planing to go try it on this week.

Denim Jacket
Denim has come back in a big way, and a denim jacket is a chic addition. Many have seen paring the jacket with girly floral dresses, or denim over denim! Personally, I had one or two denim jackets when I was in elementary school, and I am not ready to venture this jacket just yet. It is really not my style. Denim jackets give me a sense of more free-spirited style, and my style is uptight! Bahah.

Romper
I wanted to get a romper two years ago, but when I was brave enough to try it on, I felt like a 2 year old. baahaha. But the fit was awkward, and I was apprehensive about going to the ladies room with a romper! So this time around, I was shopping frequently at XXI and when I saw my romper, last one in the store, I had to get it! Impulsive, I know :)

This is not my romper, but sure is cute with the pockets and all!

Belts + Scarf
I never thought I'd be loving belts, but I really think sometimes a belt just puts the finishing touches on an outfit. This year it's all about the skinny belts that sit at your natural waistline. I am also in love with silk scarves. I am not sure if it is my maturing age, but I love scarves! Silk scarves are usually worn by more mature women, but this year you can see that scarves are being worn by the younger crowd too. Sometimes a simple knot around the neck really embellishes a simple outfit. Or you can choose to wrap it on your head like a headband, which is my favourite! The scarves and belts adds a wad of feminine energy! Lady like attire!

I know I haven't done any movie reviews since No Strings Attached. Here's a movie I saw a few weeks ago. Source Code: starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Michelle Monaghan. The basic storyline is, a soldier is on a mission to find out the bomber of a Chicago Train. Although everyone on the train is already dead, the soldier is under some new military technology that allowed him to go back to 8 minutes before the train exploded as one of the passengers, and find out what happened. It is like a type of time traveling but not. The concept of the movie derives from the idea of computer programming, source code, where programmers can essentially understand and modify the program. To put it in simple terms, an iphone app is a program that runs on the iphone, but to understand how it works and to modify this app, one would need to use the source code and change the coding.

Like the app, the soldier needs to go back to the event, and try to figure out who's the bomber, where's the bomb, and so forth. I will not spoil the ending for people who have yet to see this movie, but I have to say the movie was pretty entertaining but I wished the ending was better executed with thorough explanation and justification, because it didn't seem legitimate.

If you've been paying attention to your face, you may notice sometimes it changes! BAHAH!

So, for the longest time I had combination skin with oily tzone. After a couple of years into university, I had wonderful skin! Not too oily and only the occasional pimple! Although I've never had major acne problems, I always battled with my own fidgety hands. I was my own skin's worst enemy. I loved to pick away at my face, any chance I got at squeezing some whiteheads/blackheads, I was ecstatic! I went through a couple of rough patches when I decided staying up till 6am and drinking 2-3 cups of coffee was a good idea. My skin was screaming for help. So I stopped that lifestyle. Recently my skin has become more sensitive. The cheeks are drier than usual, and the bumps.

Let me tell you about the bumps. They are like clogged pores on my forehead and my chin. Slight round elevation that are not red, nor white, just bumps everywhere. The first time it happened I attributed it to stress, but 3-4 months went by, and the bumps did not go away but had worsen! I was in a panic! By a coincidence, I saw in a clinic waiting room, in a magazine it had mentioned a toner which was good for acne prone skin. So I went and bought it, along with some benzoyl peroxide. I had been using salicylic acid acne cream for the longest time with no noticeable results, so I decided to try benzoyl peroxide. I also read that benzoyl peroxide worked well together with glycolic acid from the toner! And just like that, my bumps went away in a matter of days. It was clear skin again. I couldn't believe it! Later my friend told me that mineral powder made her break out in bumps too. So I stopped using my mineral stuff! I had been bump free for almost a year, but just about last month, the bumps came back! I hadn't been using the toner and had major red patch reaction to my benzoyl peroxide. It could be the change in weather or the heavy night cream, or the new makeup I had been using. Anyhow, I went to shoppers and picked up another bottle of Neostrata's toning solution! When the toner is used in combination with the benzoyl peroxide cream I don't have such a severe reaction! Weird! I've been using the toner for about a week now, and my bumps are down to 10% :) It is always difficult to find the culprit, but I'll watch out for new products I use.

Lactose Intolerance

So, a couple of weeks ago I had a huge farting session. The whole evening I could not stop making stinky gas. I thought it was incredibly odd, since I did not consume any beans or gassy vegetables. As I started to track back my diet, I found I had a Starbucks caramel frappucino just hours before my fart fest. I immediately googled, and I attributed it to the coffee beans, because apparently coffee makes you gassy too. Although I've always had coffee, and never had gas like this before. I just figured that the frappucino was made from BAD COFFEE BEANS!

Tonight, I am having the same kind of gas symphony. I instantly recall the last thing I ate, a bowl of cereal. Milk. I googled, and it appears that farting is a lactose intolerance symptom. I can't believe I am lactose intolerant!? Diary?! My favourite! This is my Asian ancestry fate! It is inevitable that I cannot tolerate diary! My people didn't eat it! Please don't let this mean I have to turn to soy milk now, that is the death of me!

Turns out it was not the coffee beans, but rather the amount of milk and diary in that frappucino! I am bloated and farting a lot right now, so that is the reason why I am not yet in bed. Toodles for now :)

insensitive

Lately, I've been feeling like nothing I say is ever the right thing, or the appropriate thing. Growing up, I was always a bit of a joker, someone who made slurs, and clever blows at people. This type of lowly comedy brought us laughter because it was not too serious. Perhaps it is true sometimes that these jokes may be taken too far, or push the wrong button, here I sincerely apologize for my lack of sensitivity and ignorance to understand the magnitude of certain sensitive situations.

Many jokes have been made at other people's expense, and I understand a joke is not funny if I am the only one laughing. Perhaps I was a bit of a bully growing up, but it was merely my way of bonding with friends. My intentions were never to hurt anyone's feeling nor to drive a wedge between people. I am beginning to understand that many situations are delicate and should not be an opportunity to crack a joke. Words may be words, but they do hurt, especially coming from a supposed friend. I apologize again if at times it felt like I was attacking people's character.

My perception had always been that because we are friends, the jokes and the making fun would get a free pass and we would have unlimited access. Boy, was I wrong. Despite how close, or how distant our relationship may be, targeted words always hurt. However funny the "joke" may have seen at the time, they were purely cruel and hurtful when processed. I am sorry if it felt like I was an enemy instead of a friend.

I know saying sorry doesn't mend anything, or change anything, but I don't want to lose friendship over this ordeal. I know my biggest flaw and downfall is my quick mouth. I will try to eliminate the unnecessary remarks and comments that are mean-spirited. I don't want to be remembered as the girl who lost her friends because she liked to make sarcastic remarks. I hope all of you can find it in your heart to forgive me, because I was truly unaware that my words had hurt the ones I care about.

I am not a terrible person, but lately I have been feeling like an asshole. I hope the next time we laugh, we are laughing together.

Over the weekend, Nick Lee was kind enough to provide me a cellphone to use for the time being. I shall see in the near future if I am ready for a new phone, but now I am grateful for friends who have 3G phones lying around the house!

He only charged me $8, and the service was really quick, about half an hour and he sent the unlocking codes to me! Anyway, this Sunday was another epic sunday! Got a new haircut, a birthday dress, and a working phone! This is all very exciting. Also, the playoffs start in a few days! Time to get that canucks flag up! I am participating in my first hockey pool this week. I am sooo nervous! Wish me luck :)

Dilemma solved

So, by now you've heard about my sad news of a broken phone that is being charged by some stripped wires. My crappy LG keybo finally gave up over the week, and I am sustaining its life by powering straight to the battery.

I guess it was almost time for a new phone. Although I was less than ecstatic about a new phone. The idea of a new cellular mobile was intimidating. The fear of becoming a phone zombie, a hefty data plan, and touchscreen, were holding me back from wanting a new phone. I was torn between getting a new phone or downgrade from my current phone. Downgrading seemed like the logical choice, since I use my phone for the bare minimums composing of text messages and talking. I really didn't need all the fancy google map and angry birds. On the other hand, downgrading also meant I needed to fork up some money, about $100 just for a crappy phone. Whereas, I can get a spanking new smartphone for about the same price (with a 3 year relationship, of course). I was beginning to feel that if I don't jump on the smartphone bandwagon soon, I would become a senile and obsolete old maiden!

So, I eventually thought I should get an iPhone4, since it is pretty simple to use, and I've already familiarized myself with the iPhone3. I was researching some phone plans and came to a conclusion that I was not ready to pay $60+ a month for services that I'll probably won't use. A phone is a phone. I remember when things were simple, now it is so complicated and nitty gritty. I hate dealing with phone companies, because I feel like they are always out to get you and your money. It is impossible to outsmart the companies, unless they are willing to be completely transparent about their operations and tell you how much a text message actually costs (it costs the company almost nothing to send a text, yet they charge you what 15 cents?) Anyway, I am sure everyone has had their fair share of frustrations with cellphone companies.

Below is the evolution of my dilemma solution
1. Get a new phone from Koodo!
2. Realized koodo has poor phone selections, get stuck stressing about phones.
3. Say byebye to Koodo and get with Fido
4. Get a crappy phone from Fido for free!
5. Get a crappy phone from Koodo for $100!
6. Get a better phone from Fido
7. Get the iPhone4 and be really cool
8. Keep using broken LG and wait for iPhone5
9. Get an iPhone4 and use cool apps like calender in place of my agenda
10. Checked out rogers, telus, fido, mobilicity, and realized how much I love Koodo
11. Hating on expensive data plans
12. Get an iPhone4 with no data, and defeat purpose of a smartphone
13. Feel sad about having an iPhone but no web capabilities
14. Checks Koodo website for sim card capabilities
15. Finds out Koodo has sim cards! Smiles! Looking for old phone as replacement :)

In the end, I realized that Koodo sells sim cards, so I can just pay $10 and find an unlocked old cell, then I can use it for now :)

I am really happy I found this! I didn't want a new phone for a lot of the reasons I listed above, but most of all, I was not mentally ready for a new phone. Smartphones are scary and so are the data plans. I don't really need all the fancy stuff! I am just glad that koodo now has sim cards. Yay dilemma solved.

Sakura Festival

Yna, Yohei, Tien, and I went to the Sakura festival over the weekend. It was held at the VanDusen Garden on Oak Street. It was really cold that day, and terrible time to be at the botanical garden. It was too early for flowers! Nevertheless, we got some awesome photos.

So, after the garden, Tien decides he wants an iPad2. Then we began our search over town for the limited supply of iPad2. I called more than 40 places, and got denied so many times. Also got fooled into some false hopes! But nevertheless, found ourselves an iPad2 in Langley! 4 days worth of searching and waiting! Hardwork does prevail!

Also, I made a mini purchase at Oakridge Mall on sunday. A plain black skirt from Aritzia! Good for work and everyday wear. I am wearing it as I type.

Last but not least, some sad news. My LG lame phone has been acting up weird lately, shutting off on its own more frequently. Almost everyday. Today it finally gave up. I was trying to charge it, but nothing happened. I googled, and found out this was a common problem with my LG phone. I was sad, since I was not ready to get a new phone, and along with all the fancy dataplan. I was also not ready to get a crappy phone, and be stuck with it for another 3 years before I upgrade. I found myself in a dilemma. That's when I turned to youtube. I found that I could strip the charger wires and charge the phone battery directly! Hopefully this will work for a few days as I figure out my next phone plans.

Lately there's been talks of marriages, divorces, affairs, and the likes. It is true that society nowadays have higher divorce rates than ever, is it because there are too many temptation? People no longer take marriages seriously? Have wedding vows lost its sacred meaning?

In a society that preaches free will, self indulgence, and living in the moment, it is easy to lose perspective on things, especially value.

People may have valid justification for their affairs, but when it comes down to it, they are not honoring the vows they made. Vows are plain and simple
"I offer you my solemn vow to be your faithful partner in sickness and in health, in good times and in bad, and in joy as well as in sorrow. I promise to love you unconditionally, to support you in your goals, to honor and respect you, to laugh with you and cry with you, and to cherish you for as long as we both shall live."

If people understood the magnitude of the vow, and honored it with the greatest respect, there would be no heartbreak.

I am loving genmaicha

I've never been a big fan of tea, I am more of a coffee person. But recently, due to personal health reasons, I've cut back drastically on coffee consumption. Tea on the other hand, has less caffeine and it has antioxidants! I am currently loving genmaicha, which is essentially, brown rice tea. It is a Japanese tea that combines green tea with roasted brown rice. I love the faint green tea smell (some times oolong tea is too pungent for me) and the roasty taste of rice! This is originally poor man's tea, since the rice is used as a filler to reduce price of rice, but I love it!!!! Y'all should try some. Yes, I love the smell of windex. Also some other house cleaning agent. Being a tad of a clean freak, at times, the smell of sterile products brings me comfort. I often find myself inhaling large breaths while cleaning the windows, walking past a freshly mopped area, and in the laundry room. If you watch TLC, you will notice a show called "my strange addictions" where odd addictions are taking over people's lives. A few episodes featured people who were addicted to eating household cleaners, and soap. I hope I do not become those crazy ladies! I do, however, enjoy smelling windex...it smells real good. I wonder if I am addicted. hahaha. I cleaned some windows today :)

Last night the Oscar winners of 2011 were revealed! I feared that I was going to miss the epic 3 hour award ceremony due to a lack of PVR, but good thing Tien had old school VCR. So we watched it on good old VHS. Here's a recap of the important stuff.

The following is to bash a Korean popstar. Her name is G.NA, she held a concert last night at the Bell Performance centre. The event promised those who purchased the VIP package that there would be a meet and greet with the star, also autographed photos and personal picture time with G.NA. To everyone's disappointment, the meet and greet was pushed back till the end of the concert, and then by the end of the concert they informed the ticket holders that there would be no signatures, no meet and greet, no personal picture time, only group photos taken by the staff.

WTF. If you cannot deliver your promises, then don't make them at all. You're forever in my bad books G.NA. What a scam! Scamming people of expensive ticket packages and no meet and greet! Even though I did not attend the event myself, but my brother did, and people were furious! You just lost some fans and reputation G.NA.

Romantic Comedy

We saw No strings attached with Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher. I was infatuated with Natalie Portman after her dark performance in Black Swan. Here's a more light-hearted movie, about 2 people who use each other for sex, but the inevitable happens, they fall in love with each other.

The movie was quite enjoyable with a punchline here and there from the supporting actors, but towards the end of the movie, it just leaves you empty and dumbfounded. Dumbfounded in the worse possible way. You're thinking..huh? How the hell does this love-hate relationship always works out in people's situations? This doesn't parallel with real life.

So, we had a realization that why romantic comedies are so successful, because they appeal to a certain group of people. Here's a list of different genre of romantic comedy.

The Love-Hate relationship
synopsis: Two people obviously hate each other, but is forced to work together/be of proximity, and suddenly finds each other's annoying habits sexy and adorable. Falls in love despite all the hate and animosity towards each other just minutes ago.
audience: The single people who purposely annoys their secret crush. This type of movies gives them hope that it will eventually work out!
real-life application: The 5th grader who pulls on his classmate's hair and pushes her in the sandbox.
verdict: This doesn't really work.
applicable movies: The Ugly Truth, Life as We Know It, What Happens in Vegas, Pride and Prejudice

The Cinderella story
synopsis: A person (usually female) comes from a less than wealthy situation, and suddenly comes into some wealth, and meets the love of their life. (Or meets Price Charming and becomes RICH!) Totally life changing!

verdict: It is hard not to be blinded by your bling, Prince Charming!

Enough about TV, here's what I did over the weekend. Finally took out the D80 for photo opts around town. Tien and I went to brunch at Faubourg in Kerrisdale. Brunch was ok, but I think the afternoon tea would probably have blown us away. We'll be back next time. During brunch we got into a bit of a misunderstanding and the tension was making me sick. It seemed real dramatic too! Good thing we talked it over after brunch and made things clear. It is often so much easier to run away from the situation and stay angry at the other person. But we're better than that! AHAH. After brunch we went to Oakridge Centre, in an attempt to buy stuff, mainly an iPad for Tien. iPad was a no go when he realized it was $600. Fail. Also, you should have seen my outfit yesterday, it was awesome, too bad our DSLR skills have yet need some brushing up. HAHAH. I will be sure to take more photos in the upcoming months guys! Don't you worry!

The King's Speech + Food Challenge

Colin Firth does not fail us!!! He was awesome in this movie :)
Loved Colin Firth in Pride and Prejudice back in the days, and now, he is impressive as a King who overcomes his speech impediment. Truly touching movie about King George the VI who is put into the throne unwillingly, but turns out to be a great leader. The movie displayed how friendship can grow from the most uncommon circumstances, and the power true friendships can provide. The story is an inspiration about overcoming our worst fears and facing our obligations like a real man, or rather, like a king!

We are rooting for Colin Firth as Best Actor for the Academy Awards :)

Movies to watch before the big date Feb 27th!

So they announced the nominations for Oscars today! I am stoked this year, because Leonardo DiCaprio made a movie! Inception might be a contender, but least likely to be best lead actor. :( That's ok LEO there's still next year!!

A couple of notable things in the nominations. The King's speech swept 12 nominations, followed by 10 nominations for True Grit, 8 for Social Media and 8 for Inception. Can you believe Christopher Nolan didn't get nominated for best director?! WHAT THE HELL?

Anyway, I am watching the King's Speech tomorrow night! YAY.

Since the Oscar nominations are in tomorrow, I have to start watching some contenders! We saw Fighter last week, this week it was the much anticipated Black Swan.

If you haven't seen the movie, here's the dealio. Nina (Natalie Portman) plays the perfectionist ballerina, who is denied the role of Swan Queen, because she is too perfect, and only suited to play White Swan. Lily (Mila Kunis) is a more passionate dancer, that display potential for the sensual Black Swan. When the two compete for the role of Swan Queen, Nina finds a dark side of herself..

The movie is thrilling! Displaying an array of psychological stuff! The struggles of an artist, the obsession of perfection, the fear of being replaced by your double. Other notable psychological concepts, lack of social interaction, extremely protective and controlling mother, symptoms of delusion and Morgellons (a condition involving scratching of the skin, biting, skin lesions, and a belief that fibers are embedded under the skin.. etc.) Also, there is some graphic girl on girl action, perhaps a search of her sexual orientation.

I would give this movie the thumbs up! I enjoy seeing character development that eventually conquers! The movies keeps you guessing, if it is all Nina's hallucination, or was she simply a victim of unfortunate events? I felt that the movie gave a sympathetic angle to Nina's life, allowing the audience to feel for her.

The weekend started off early, 11am brunch date at White Spot. Had a veggie egg benedict. Tasty!

Then we went to Aberdeen for a haircut! Also to buy ingredients for my next dish! Braised green beans! Here's us dorking out at Aberdeen centre with all the Chinese New Year festivities.

Dinner was at 4Stones in Richmond, on Westminster Road. I had the wonton noodle soup!

After dinner was Black Swan! Pretty eventful day, I'd say!

TiMER

What I watched last week on Netflix.com

TiMER, is a sci-fi-romantic-comedy about a device that counts down to the moment you meet your soulmate. The main character, Oona, is fast approaching 30 years of age, and her TiMER is still blank, meaning her soulmate has not yet been equipped with a TiMER.
She is in distress, because she's beginning to believe that she'll never find her soulmate. Meanwhile, she meets a cashier boy, and they start to develop a relationship, despite the fact he is TiMER-less. Cashier boy reminds Oona to live in the present. Just as Oona begins to doubt the effectiveness of TiMER, her TiMER goes off, and she's to meet her soulmate the next day. You can watch the rest of the movie to find out what happens!

The movie really brought many aspects of "love" into the equation. Do you believe in destined soulmates? Do you believe that love is what you make of it? Do you believe that one can be in love more than once? Do you believe that there is one person who is most compatible with you, and you'll learn to love them in the long run? Does love discriminate? All in all, a real good chill movie to watch on a Wednesday afternoon.

Weekend Movie Marathon

Chilling in Spain for film promotion!

The Green Hornet!
I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, not sure if it is because I am biased towards Jay Chou!! It was all in all a really entertaining movie with classic slapstick comdey, and your typical easy to laugh punchlines! Jay Chou's english is also superb! As for storyline, like any superhero storyline, bad guys DIE, good guys WIN!

I would recommend the movie, because I love Jay.

The Fighter
Based on the true story of boxer Micky Ward and his brother Dickie Eklund. This is a boy-film, but I did enjoy the shirtless Mark Wahlberg! He's so swole! It had some pretty inspirational moments. Mark Wahlberg did a good job displaying one's dedication and passion to the sport. Also, I never really liked Christian Bale, but got to say, he plays a great crack addict!!

Movie directed by Drew Barrymore!

Whip It
Ellen Page plays a lost little girl who finds confidence and joy in roller derby! YAY. ROLLER DERBY! It is roller skates gone wild. We saw it on netflix and it was pretty enjoyable. Some funny parts, some touching moments, a relaxing film to watch with a tad of action in the rollerskating rink!

*We're suppose to watch Black Swan! It keeps getting pushed back...maybe it is not meant to be...

P.S. More movies to watch before the Oscar catches up to me! Did anyone watch the Golden Globes? I didn't, because it is not the Oscar.

Rigatoni Pomodoro

Last night I decided to make some dinner. (Sorry I forgot to take pictures!)

Pretty basic sauce and pretty tasty too!

Pomodoro Sauce

diced tomatoes

diced mushrooms

tomato paste

fresh basil/or dried is fine too

tad of chili for that kick!

olive oil

salt + pepper to taste

and of course, my favourite addition to any pasta dish CHEESE! I used both Kraft Cheese and smoke cheddar for that extra smokiness!

PASTA
Boil pasta as directed on the package, then boil boil! Remember to add a tad of salt for funzzies! Cook pasta to al dente (a tad undercooked) Remove pasta from heat source and let it sit in the pot for a minute. Then drain!

SAUCE
While your pasta is boiling away, allow pan to heat with some olive oil,then add tomato paste, add a bit of water to dilute if desired. Then add the fresh tomatoes, and mushrooms. keep at medium heat to avoid burning your cute mushrooms. Add basil, salt + pepper, chili. Stir! Add cheese to your concoction! mmm!

Victim of bad television

So, I've been following Pretty Little Liars on ABC, since it first aired last fall. The tv series is based on some popular novel series. Gossip Girl dejavu, much? Anyway, let me fill you in on the premise so you don't have to suffer watching this.

5 girls are besties, and their queen bee disappears (apparently murdered). A year after the disappearance, the girls start receiving text messages, threats about how he/she will reveal their dark secrets, including secrets that only the queen bee would have known.

Basically, the story is about the girls not wanting to go to authority about these potential scary death threats, from an anonymous source. This anonymous person seems to have great control over them, since it knows the girls' weakness. It all seems ridiculous, when your life is in danger, why don't you tell your mom or the police that someone has been inside your house, writing scary message on the mirror?! Stalker alert. The girls do not learn that lying is the absolute worst action, and continues to let stalker take control of your life! AHH. Much frustration about teenagers who do not handle situations well.

But since I have nothing else to watch until Gossip Girl comes back, I have to wait and find out who the scary stalker is. All in all, it has mixed reviews from 8/10 New York Daily News, to 16/100 entertainment weekly. I can't believe it also won Teen Choice Awards, but then again, teens can relate to lying, and secrets kept between friends. I, on the other hand, prefer not to dig myself a bigger hole.

P.S. The girls are pretty to watch.

Tis' the season to be jolly! Yet I am extremely busy with Christmas hours at the mall, and due to my lack of self-health-awareness, I am having a minor kidney infection. Joy. It's sure a nuisance, and several fevers after I am still suffering from dull pain in my back. Anywho...I hope it gets better, I am a tad worried!

On to more cheerful topics! Christmas shopping! I sure have been doing some christmas shopping, but it seems that shoppers in the shopping malls have not! Come on! What are you doing at a mall! Buy some stuff guys!

December will be filled with so many events! For example, Jay Chou concert! OMG!!!!!!!!

UGG

So, it is apparent that UGG boots, and the likes, have been taking over winter footwear over the past couple of years. It seemed like a nasty trend that would not go away. I never enjoyed the fat furry boots, despite they bring comfort and warmth to those who wear them. Its comfort and warmth does not make it a fashion accessory. So as I walked into the Bay today, and I saw a big section selling UGG boots, and I decided to slip my foot inside the boot, and see for myself if it really is all the hype. In goes my foot, and I am not amused. It is too warm to be worn indoors, and seriously, how long are you going to be outdoors wearing these boots for? Most of the UGGs I see are worn around the mall, school, and others. We're not really outside in the freezing for more than an hour, with exception of those that need to commute, but still, they are not waterproof. Anyway, I am not a fan of this overpriced winter-fur-boot-thingy. $299 for a pair of fluffys? Really hurts my head. But not to be a hypocrite about it, I bought myself a pair of fringe infested boots on eBay last week for $35 in total. HEHEHE. Fringes!!!

Richmond Centre!

So after a battle of horrendous mall politics, we've successfully moved from Guildford Town Centre into Richmond Centre, and that's only half the battle. There are more changes that await us, but we shall conquer them one by one. Things have been really busy around here, and it's not helping with my need to vacation! Anyway, I guess this is a part of growing up, taking on more responsibilities than leisure. Really looking forward to 2011, as things settle down and get a better grip on the business, I will feel less frazzled and more grounded. Anywho, not gonna bore you with work talk, I'm going to the vancouver flea market tomorrow with my hunnie and hopefully we'll find some interesting junk! Haven't had a day off in a while! This shall be treasured! And photos will accompany this great adventure :)

So, you won't be seeing very much of me in the next couple of weeks, or even months. As we plan to make a drastic move from Guildford Mall to Richmond Centre, there is a lot to be done. Moving is hectic, administrative stuff is hectic, not being stable is hectic, negotiation is hectic, adapting is hectic, traffic is hectic. Day downtown!

This sunday, Tien and I went downtown for my $5 bangs-cut at Chura hair salon! $5 makes me holla! We also went to visit the newly open Joe store! It was hectic in there, and nothing really piqued my interest. It was mostly sweaters and long sleeve shirts. I much preferred Joe in superstore! Anyway, the coolest thing was this $39 jacket in a bag! Awesome idea for storage and travel efficiency.

We didn't buy anything in the end, but we did however made an attempt to eat waffles at Medina Cafe. It was packed. I saw a bunch of people standing outside, but I assumed they were just chilling. Little did I know, they are in line for a table! I saw the waiting list and a little part of me died inside. Until next time, waffles :(

As we grow older, we are require to have some sort of progress in life. Weather it is financial advancement, mental maturity, or growing into your own person, we are always progressing. Recently, I feel like I am growing at rapid rates. My ability to handle business situations and interpersonal relationships. Life is easier when you don't have to grow up, but you'll never see your own potential. We are all working to become a better person, a mature individual, an independent person. These don't come easy, it takes hard work and determination.

My next step of progress is to become a financially responsible person! That means I have to start saving some money for the future! Or else how am I suppose to retire by the time I am 30 years old?!

Bistro Moderne

So over the weekend Tien and I went out for dinner, in celebration of 1.5 anniversary, but really we just wanted an excuse to dress up in nice clothes and be pretentious!

So we recalled that Rob Feenie used to be the head chef at Lumiere and Feenies, but he is no longer affiliated with those 2 restaurants, we decided to go and try out Feenies (or whatever new restaurant name it was under now) since we had been to Lumiere the year before and was not too impressed. The restaurant is now called Bistro Moderne, it features French cuisine with moderate pricing. The restaurant had good ambiance, without trying to hard to be fancy. Portions were a tad smaller than a regular entree, but enough room for dessert!

I order the Cauliflower risotto and Tien had the duck tortellini. We both had a sundae for dessert, an apple crumble sundae and peach sundae. We were relatively impressed with the food! I like my risotto with almonds, very nice addition! My peach sundae came with gingerbread! Helloo Christmas! Overall it was really fun and tasty. We didn't bring our camera to capture the food, next time next time!

Note to self: Bring camera everywhere :)

We made our first attempt at apple crumble on Monday night, we simply sprinkle with apples with cinnamon, sugar, and graham cracker crumbs. Then we added ice cream. The texture was off, and apparently we were missing a whole lot of ingredients and steps! hahaha But it tasted good, that's all it matters.

Also, I went to H & M today and tried on a long lepoard dress...I must say I was tempted to buy because I've been looking for a long dress for the longest time. The dress was a tad too big on me, the shoulders kept sliding off. Perhaps I will seek for a smaller size next time. The dress didn't have a definitive waist, so I look a bit preggers!

Anyway, that should sum up my days...I've been on netflix.ca like crazy :) I recently watched a good foreign film lately. called Loft. A Belgium thriller, about 5 married friends who share a loft to meet their mistresses, everything is happy and dandy until someone discovers a dead body in the loft. One of the best suspense/thriller movies I have seen in a long time. It kept me guessing till the end! Very well carried out, and superb acting! The movie is in Dutch, but the whole time I thought it was French. hahahaha

An Education

Since Tien got an account at Netflix.ca, I've been blessed with hundreds of movie choices! Today I picked An Education!

Story takes place in 1960 London, with impeccable taste for fashion.
This movie is an adaption of British Journalist, Lynn Barber's memoir. It depicts a young bright 16 year old girl, Jenny, who is pursuing education at an all-girl prep school, and aiming for Oxford University. While she is bored with the relentless and seemingly meaningless school life, she meets an older man, who seduces her with his charm and luxe lifestyle. She soon learns that his lifestyle is a work of con, and is involved in shady business. She learns to accept his dubious work, and doubts an Oxford education would ever be useful. She throws away her education, and accepts a marriage proposal from the older man. Should you want to know how this story ends, please watch the movie! hahaha! No spoiler here :)

The movie was great, I really liked the 1960's fashion and elegance everyone had about themselves. The main actress, Carey Mulligan, is said to channel the great Audrey Hepburn in both elegance and talent. After watching the movie, the lesson that should be learned is, "All that glitter is not gold." Though...those glitter should be diamonds!!

Lynn Barber was once naive and fell for a conman, who deceived her as well as her family. Life's a big lesson, and lesson learned!

You are looking at Guerlain's meteorites powder. I guess this is one of their most signature products, one for its distinctive package and for its awesome colours. The product is suppose to applied all over the face, for a glowing effect. The red gives a feeling of blushing, greens tones down the redness, purple attracts light and gold and white balls highlight and brighten! Sounds like an amazing product eh!?

I swear this product has been around longer than me, because I used to see bottles of beautiful cosmetics on my aunt's vanity table. The most intriguing one was the one with rainbow balls of pearl! Since I was a kid, I had been eluded by the packages of beauty products. This meteorites powder has to be one of my first encounters with cosmetics!

I don't think I am a makeup/product junkie, but there is an army of bottles sitting in my bathroom. Sometimes it is simply difficult to resist such impeccable marketing! Beauty in a bottle! So I've been wanting to get my hands on this powder for years now, but never had the opportunity, or time, or the justification to buy another $60 product.

I think the closest thing I came to buying something similar was the Givenchy's Prismissime 9 colour face powder. It sells for $56 at strawberry.net.com
I bought it at airport duty free when I was bored and waiting for board. This is what happens when they have those fancy duty free stores luring you in with shiny cosmetics! A trap! But nonetheless, I love it! The package is convenient and cute! The powder smells nice, and makes me have that 1920's shanghai feel when I use it!

P.S. I will be posting a blog real soon about the 1920-1930 Chinese and Japanese antique advertising poster! I really love them! I loved everything about that era, the Western influences on traditional Chinese architecture, the glamorous outfits, the hair, the life!

Savings

Yesterday was another metrotown adventure with fellow shorty, helz. On the way to mall we had a conversation about finances and savings. It appears that everyone else in the world has the idea of saving money and future investments. I, on the other hand, has never really thought about savings. I usually just save some money, then blow it away on something like a 2 month vacation. I guess it never occurred to me that I may need to live on savings in the future.

I guess people save money because they want to buy a home, have retirement security. Helen said I was overly optimistic, because I believed that when I don't have money, I'd just be able to make some. It never crossed my mind to purchase my own home, so putting some money aside was never in the equation. HAAAHA... I should really rethink my financial habits.

Jeggings

Jeggings

So, for those unfamiliar with the term Jeggings, it is bascially denim leggings. What are leggings? Those skin tight stretchy pants, close resemblance to the stocking tights, but footless. These denim leggings have been all the hype, with magazines advertising and celebrities strutting in them.

I wanted to see for myself what these Jeggings were all about. I went on Sunday with my beau to metrotown, in hopes to find some Jeggings. We found some alright. I took home with me 2 pairs from Forever 21. One is a light wash denim colour, the other a combination of legging + jeggings. Very cool looking. As I tried them on at home, I realized that the comfort I saw in leggings were not present in these legging relatives. Leggings are usually made from some cotton material + a huge % of spandex. Making it very form fitting and comfy! These Jeggings were stiff and not so stretchy. The closest thing I could think of was the skinny jeans, and I like my skinny jeans. The jeggings did not have the shape of a skinny jean, and was awkward and tough to wear. I decided jeggings are not for me. So I returned these jeggings for store credit. I am still on the search for comfy jeggings. Perhaps some leggings that come in blue...haha.

The colours are all stunning! Currently sold out on the website.... My, I don't know how to justify spending $1,000 on a purse, just yet. I may need some time to convince myself. HAHAHAH WOMEN ARE INSANE.

Concorde Adventure

So, over the weekend, Tien and I went down to Seattle to visit the Museum of Flight. Because we saw a documentary on discovery channel about the supersonic jetliner: Concorde, we were instantly fascinated by the super fast, super luxury air travel! It is a shame that the mach 2 jetliner retired after 27 years of transporting people at sonic speeds! I wish I could fly that fast! The museum was a lot of fun! Saw some space foods! Nasty nasty things in tubes! There were plenty of fighter jets from WWI and WWII. Funny thing we discovered, the museum had absolutely no mentions of the Vietnam War and the bombing of Pearl Harbour, which probably used a bunch of jets...How politically correct/incorrect to exclude these battles. Anyway! Here is a photo of me posing with a jet figther!

While on our trip, we visited cheesecake factory, the pasta was good and I had a mere appetizer for $5 and it filled me up! American portions are amazing! Purchases made were a toiletry organizer from the Container Store! Also an awesome skirt from the Material Girl line! Horray for me! And a Trench Coat for Tien! We're styling!

Birthday extravaganza

Domo Kun Cake! It was Tien's birthday yesterday and I woke up at 6am to bake a domokun cake :)

It reignited my passion for baking! Now that I've got left over ingredients, it's baking time! Also I made my second attempt at creme caramel. The texture was too hard, perhaps I was missing the aluminum foil to cover it, but mom says aluminum foil is poisonous! Also my caramel is too bitter :( Who has a good/easy recipe?

Anyway! I hope everyone's birthday cake is as cool as this one!

Meteor shower

So last night Tien and I bought some burger king fries (they are the best, so fresh and potatoy) and laid under the stars in the park near my house! It was a bit hard to see at first, since it is relatively bright with some street lamps and house lights. After a while we saw a couple big ones and few little ones. We called it quits around 11:30pm. It was getting late and cold! Overall, very fun and very romantic. Hahaha, minus the part where I sprayed bug repellent all over the grass surrounding us! Like a barrier!

Anyway, got bills to pay. Hurt.

The good life

I know I've got it pretty good, and am in no position to be complaining.

I think I need some time alone and just learn to relax. Work seems never ending. I come home and it feels like work. I don't have real co-workers, I don't interact with humans on a regular basis, except for vague customer service. I feel like I am drowning sometimes, not knowing when I will ever reach the shore. I'm not saying I want to be jumping out of airplanes everyday, I just want something to call my own. I am losing a sense of self-identity.

Maybe technology is killing me. I think I'll go a week without computer/tv/cellphone, and see where I end up.

Backstreet's back, alright!

Last night Tien, Jermey, and I were at Rogers Arena with thousands of screaming women!
I would say the Backstreet Boys really imprinted me as a fresh immigrant child! They were my first experience of the boy bands to come, and they were definitely the best of them all! 17 years after the band formed, they are still rocking it! All the women at the concert last night were all dressed up for the boys! There were about 20 guys at the concert! Nevertheless the boys also sang along! It was awesome!

Anyway, I've been living a week without my plastics, also living on $100 cash. So far so good. Since I lost my wallet, I canceled my cards, so I am waiting eagerly for them to arrive in the mail! I was fortunately enough to have my wallet returned to me from a kind citizen!

It's been hard without the plastic, since I wanted to do some online shopping, and buy some Kooza tickets and book a trip. All those things are impossible without a credit card number! Oh how I've become reliant on cards!

I've been using expedia for years, and still love it. Some of you may be familiar with hotwire.com, a discount travel website! They offer low prices on vacation packages, airfare, hotel, and car rental, but the only catch is that the hotel/airline isn't revealed until you've paid! So you're not given the option to choose specific hotel, trade off is the low prices!

I've always been a bit timid about booking a hotel before seeing some reviews/photos! This time I am feeling a bit more adventurous and I think it'll be fun to book via hotwire.com! It should be a good experience since hotwire.com is managed by Expedia!

I will be checking back and forth from expedia, tripadvisor, and hotwire, to try and figure out which hotel I am booking! I am such a scaredy cat. And I think I just found a package on hotwire.com that is $100 less than on expedia.com!

Lost wallet

What happens when you lose your wallet? Your boyfriend takes you on a shopping spree and go wild at build a bear!

So I don't exactly know how I lost the wallet.
Below are speculations of the unfortunate event.

The thick wallet fell out of my pocket, without me noticing.

I was a victim of pocket picking, as a man walked by me through a door!

Anyway, most credit cards and debit stuff have been taken care of.

Lesson learned!

Day 3: Lemon Juice experiment

So, a little update on the lemon juice treatment I've been experimenting on my porous and acne prone skin. There appears to be less bumps on my chin, and minimal breakout of 1-2 pimples in this 3 day progress. Although the little bumps on my forehead are still there, they do appear slightly flatter..Maybe it is all psychological!

Feeling blah this evening for no particular reason, I believe it is part of being a girl. You may think it is irrational or unreasonable, but I seriously can't give you an answer that I don't even know myself. Being in a slump sucks.

Hello Lemon

So today I don't work till 1pm, which is kinda nice, gives me the daylight to do some chores and fun things! So I did laundry this morning, and I plan to paint my nails while watching the new episode of True Blood! Perhaps a pampering shower before lunch! There's just so much you can do on a Monday morning! After work I will be meeting up with the girls to look at some Victoria Secret stuff for an online purchase! Hello Bikini. Even though Bikini season is almost over...but nevertheless we plan to take a road trip down to California! Perhaps I can wear my bikini there...!

Speaking of lemons, my t-zone has been bothering me since late May. Mysterious bumps everywhere on my forehead and breakouts like a greasy 16 year old boy! It's hard to pin point the cause, but I suspect them to be one of the following:

Stree

Greasy food?

Change in climate/weather

Cosmetic product misuse

Stupid fingers touching my face

Karma

So, I've been trying to find a way to restore my skin back to its glory days. My recent endeavor involves lemon juice! It's suppose to work like a chemical peel. Let the lemon be an astringent, and kill the bacteria! Lemon also help bleach the existing scar/spots. So we will see if this lemon juice really works. Day 1, no signs of improvement!
